Neuroaffirmative therapy

Discover your untapped potential and become the hero of your own narrative – where every day is an opportunity for a new, epic adventure.

About me

Hello! I’m Giancarlo Cristea, a dedicated and highly qualified integrative neuro-affirming psychotherapist based in London, United Kingdom. I’m not your typical therapist, and that’s by design 😉

Being neurodivergent myself, my therapeutic approach is rooted in a deep understanding of neurodiversity.

My passion is creating a safe, understanding, and inclusive space for neurodivergent people. I established my private practice because I am deeply committed to providing positive, compassionate care that emphasises the capabilities of neurodivergent minds.

The mental health community has traditionally associated neurodivergence with pathology and stigma, seeing it through the lens of deficiencies rather than the great strengths that may be found within each individual’s neurotype.

I have personally experienced the stigmatisation that comes with being neurodivergent. Being autistic and having ADHD has given me first-hand knowledge of the difficulties neurodivergent people face in our neurotypical society.

I’m attempting to modernise therapy by giving you the freedom and support you need to learn to accept and cherish yourself without the mask.

My practice is a safe, confidential, and welcoming space where you can explore and grow without fear of judgment. Neurodivergent individuals bring invaluable strengths and perspectives. Yet, the conventional therapeutic landscape often overlooks their unique needs. I am passionate about closing this gap.

My therapeutic approach

My approach is modern, forward-thinking, and personalised, co-created with you to discover tailored solutions that empower and work for you.

I celebrate the kaleidoscope of human experiences, focusing on the vibrant diversity of neurodivergent identities.

In my practice, I recognise the profound interconnectedness of mind and body and its importance. We will work together to untangle the threads of your past and present, addressing issues stemming from childhood, physical illness, or spiritual crises.

Therapy for neurodivergent people, in my opinion as a neurodivergent therapist, should originate from someone who has experienced neurodivergence first-hand.

Without reservation, I strongly oppose the use of applied behaviour analysis (ABA) or any similar coercive therapy to make neurodivergent individuals appear neurotypical or “normal”.

Acceptance of neurodiversity

Recognising that neurodivergence is a natural human variation and not a medical condition, a “disorder” or something that needs to be “cured”.

Person-centered approach

Rather than depending on standardised diagnostic labels, emphasising the individual’s specific qualities, experiences, and viewpoints.

Collaborative Partnership

Recognising the client as an expert in their own life and considering their perspective.

This emphasis on collaboration can make potential clients feel empowered and in control of their healing journey.

The principles of neuroaffirmative therapy

Self-advocacy

Teaching clients about neurodivergence and neurotypes, coping with difficulties, and speaking up for themselves in their communities, families, or jobs.

Truma-informed care

Acknowledging the impact that trauma has on neurodiverse individuals and tailoring the care accordingly.

Strength-based approach

Focusing on each person’s unique skills and qualities and emphasise those rather than dwelling on their weaknesses.
